  • Introduction to field journals and observation tasks

  • Evening meal and rest

Day 2 – Host School Exchange: Living with the River

  • Full day at partner school

  • Joint activities with Chinese students:

    School life and daily routines

    How rivers shape cities and communities

  • Fun group activities and discussion

  • Evening in hotel

Day 3 – Freshwater Ecosystems & Biodiversity

  • Guided visit to river, wetland or lakeside ecosystem

  • Focus on:

    Freshwater habitats

    Species diversity

    Pollution and protection

  • Simple field-study activities

  • Evening in hotel

Day 4 – Urban Nature & Human Impact

  • Visit to Xuanwu Lake Park

  • Study of:

    Urban green spaces

    Biodiversity within cities

    Balancing development and nature

  • Lakeside walk and observation tasks

  • Evening walk around the Confucius Temple (Fuzimiao) area

    Lanterns, street food and river atmosphere

 

Day 5 – Host School Project Day: Sustainable Futures

  • Second day at partner school

  • Joint project:

    How can rivers be protected for future generations?

    Comparing UK and Chinese approaches

  • Short student presentations

  • Evening in hotel

Day 6 – History, Rivers & City Design

  • Walk or cycle along sections of the Nanjing City Wall

    Defence, planning and relationship to waterways

  • Discussion:

    How rivers influence settlement and protection

  • Evening Qinhuai River night cruise

    Lantern-lit bridges and reflections

Day 7 – Reflection, Culture & Celebration

  • Visit to cultural or environmental museum

  • Reflection session:

    What students learned about rivers, cities and sustainability

  • Traditional performance or cultural show

  • Farewell group dinner

    Celebration and shared highlights

Day 8 – Departure

  • Final journal review and certificates

  • Programme close

  • Transfer to airport
