Day 1 – Arrival & Welcome to Ancient China

  • Arrival in Xi’an and airport transfer to the hotel

  • Welcome briefing: Xi’an as a centre of tradition and storytelling

  • Introduction to Mandarin journals and confidence-building tasks

  • First impressions walk in the local area

  • Evening meal and rest at the hotel

Day 2 – Cultural Confidence & Everyday China

  • Exploration of central Bell Tower of Xi'an district

  • Walk through Shuyuanmen Street

  • Focus on:

    Everyday Mandarin communication

    Cultural vocabulary and interaction

  • Continue to the Muslim Quarter

  • Interactive language activities in a lively, real-world setting

  • Guided task:

    Ordering food, asking questions and engaging with local vendors

  • Walk to the Xi’an City Wall South Gate

  • Guided discussion on:

    How tradition and modern life coexist

Day 3 – Heritage, History & Storytelling

  • Visit to the Terracotta Army

  • Focus on:

    • Storytelling vocabulary

    • Historical narrative in Mandarin

  • Guided reflection and language tasks

  • Evening at the Hotel

    Day 4 – Food Culture & Language in Action

  • Exploration of Yongxingfang Food Street, a vibrant street food and cultural hub

  • Focus on:

    Food vocabulary and everyday Mandarin

    Cultural identity through cuisine

  • Interactive language activities in a lively, real-world setting

  • Guided task:

    Ordering food, asking prices and interacting with local vendors

  • Exploration of traditional food stalls and regional specialities

  • Hands-on dumpling-making workshop

 

Day 5 – Language in Action & Cultural Expression

  • Visit to Tang Paradise, a cultural park inspired by the Tang Dynasty

  • Focus on:

    Cultural storytelling through language

    Speaking and presentation skills

  • Exploration of traditional architecture, gardens and performance spaces

  • Collaborative task:

    Create and prepare a short presentation on a Chinese tradition or cultural theme

  • Group presentations in an outdoor cultural setting

Day 6 – Architecture, Belief & Identity

  • Walk along the Xi’an City Wall

  • Visit to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda

  • Focus on:

    Belief systems and cultural identity

    Language of tradition and respect

  • Evening exploration of local night markets

  • Cycle or walking along the ancient city wall at sunset

  • Evening at the Hotel for games and down time.

Day 7 – Modern Meets Traditional China

  • Visit to a cultural centre or modern gallery

  • Focus on:

    Contemporary Chinese culture and identity

    The relationship between tradition and modern life

  • Mandarin speaking showcase and reflection on seeing how ancient traditions and modern China coexist

  • Farewell group dinner in a traditional cultural setting, with evening views across illuminated gardens and performance spaces at Tang Paradise

Day 8 – Departure

  • Programme close

  • Transfer to airport
