Day 1 – Arrival & Welcome to Sichuan

Arrival in Chengdu and transfer to hotel

Welcome briefing: Chengdu as a centre for wildlife conservation and sustainability

Introduction to student journals and field notebooks

Evening meal and time to rest

Day 2 – Young Environmentalists

Exploring how young people in China learn about nature and the environment

Interactive group activities and informal discussion

Introduction to key themes: biodiversity, sustainability and conservation

Evening at the hotel and short walk in the local area

Day 3 – Giant Pandas & Conservation in Action

Visit to Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding

Focus on:

  • Endangered species and conservation efforts

  • Habitat protection and biodiversity

  • Breeding programmes and conservation science

Observation activities, sketching and photography

Evening meal and time to relax with group activities

Day 4 – Rivers, Landscapes & Human Interaction

Excursion to Leshan Giant Buddha

Exploring:

  • The relationship between people and natural landscapes

  • Rivers, erosion and landscape formation

  • Cultural heritage shaped by the environment

Time to explore the surrounding area and viewpoints

Evening return to Chengdu

 

Day 5 – Forests, Food Chains & Ecosystems

Visit to a local forest or nature reserve

Exploring:

  • Habitats and biodiversity

  • Food chains and adaptation

  • Human impact on ecosystems

Fieldwork-style activities including observation and recording

Evening visit to Jinli Ancient Street

Street food, lanterns and local crafts

Day 6 – Conservation in Action Project Day

Group project:

How can we protect biodiversity locally and globally?

Students work in teams to:

  • Explore real-world environmental challenges

  • Compare approaches in China and the UK

  • Develop ideas and practical solutions

Creative outcomes (presentations, posters or journals)

Evening at the hotel with group activities

Day 7 – Sustainability, Culture & Celebration

Exploring sustainability in modern Chengdu

Focus on:

  • Urban green spaces

  • Sustainable lifestyles

  • Balancing city life with nature

Visit to a local park or river area

Evening Sichuan food experience (dumplings or hot pot)

Evening performance of Sichuan Opera face-changing

Farewell group dinner

Day 8 – Reflection & Departure

Final journal reflections and certificates

Group discussion: key learning and experiences

Programme close and transfer to airport
