Day 1 – Arrival & Welcome to Sichuan

  • Arrival in Chengdu and transfer to hotel

  • Welcome briefing: Chengdu as a global centre for wildlife conservation

  • Introduction to student journals and field notebooks

  • First impressions walk in the local area

  • Evening meal and time to rest

Day 2 – Urban Nature & Everyday Sustainability

  • Visit to People's Park

  • Focus on:

    Urban green spaces and biodiversity

    Everyday sustainability in city life

  • Exploration of park ecosystems, lakes and plant life

  • Interactive discussion and observation tasks

  • Visit to a traditional tea house within the park

  • Guided discussion on:

    How communities interact with nature in daily life experiencing local life and nature combined in a vibrant city park

  • Evening at the hotel

Day 3 – Giant Pandas & Conservation in Action

  • Visit to the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding

  • Focus on:

    Endangered species and conservation efforts

    Habitat protection and biodiversity

  • Observation activities, sketching and photography

  • Guided discussion on conservation science and global responsibility

  • Seeing giant pandas up close in a world-leading conservation centre 🐼

  • Evening meal and group activities

Day 4 – Rivers, Landscapes & Human Interaction

  • Excursion to the Leshan Giant Buddha

  • Focus on:

    Human interaction with natural landscapes

    Rivers, erosion and environmental change

  • Exploration of surrounding viewpoints and river systems

  • Guided discussion on cultural heritage and environmental impact and standing beside one of the largest stone Buddha statues in the world

  • Evening return to Chengdu

 

Day 5 – Ecosystems, Food Chains & Biodiversity

  • Visit to Qingcheng Mountain or surrounding natural area

  • Focus on:

    Habitats and biodiversity

    Food chains and adaptation

  • Fieldwork-style activities including observation and recording

  • Guided discussion on:

    Human impact on ecosystems

  • Evening visit to Jinli Ancient Street and getting to experience traditional Sichuan culture through food, crafts and atmosphere

Day 6 – Conservation in Action & Environmental Solutions

  • Group project:

    How can we protect biodiversity locally and globally?

  • Focus on:

    Real-world environmental challenges

    Sustainable solutions

  • Collaborative task:

    Develop and present ideas for conservation

  • Group presentations in a structured setting presenting solutions to real environmental challenges using examples from what they’ve seen so far

  • Evening at the hotel - group games and downtime

Day 7 – Sustainability, Culture & Celebration

  • Exploration of urban sustainability in Chengdu

  • Visit to a local park or river area

  • Focus on:

    Sustainable lifestyles

    Balancing city life with nature

  • Sichuan food experience (dumplings or hot pot)

  • Evening performance of Sichuan Opera face-changing

  • Farewell celebratory group dinner in a traditional cultural setting near Jinli Ancient Street

Day 8 – Reflection & Departure

  • Final journal reflections and certificates

  • Group discussion: key learning and experiences

  • Transfer to airport
